ATLANTA, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Member dentists of the Georgia Dental
Association (GDA) are responding to the needs of persons devastated by
Hurricane Katrina. Dentists around the state are offering emergency treatment
services for relief of dental pain to evacuees from Mississippi and Louisiana.
The GDA is also providing toothbrushes and toothpaste to those in shelters.
Hundreds of dental offices have been destroyed in the Gulf region and many
dentists will be unable to practice for many months. The GDA is coordinating
opportunities within our state for displaced dentists, as well as evacuees, by
serving as a clearinghouse for the following services:
- Office space for displaced dentists to use on a temporary basis;
- Housing for displaced dentists and dental staff;
- Temporary practice opportunities;
- Free emergency dental care to assist evacuees living at Georgia
shelters.
To learn more about these services and to obtain a list of volunteer
dentists, visit the Georgia Dental Association's web site at http://www.gadental.org.
The Georgia Dental Association, organized in 1859, has 3,100 member
dentists statewide. The GDA strives to promote oral health and preventive
dentistry in improving standards of dental health in the state. The GDA
provides many community services. Some of these are: a complimentary toll-free
referral service; free dental screenings for children entering Georgia public
schools for the first time; a speakers bureau; and a mediation process to
assist patients in resolving dental health care problems.
