NEW YORK, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Biotechnology Industry Organization
(BIO) has renewed its national agreement with PR Newswire and expanded the
package of services it offers members to enhance their public relations
programs, the organizations announced today.
BIO, which represents more than 850 biotechnology companies, academic
institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations, began its
association with PR Newswire two years ago to assist its members with cost-
effective publicity.
The agreement provides biotechnology companies with the opportunity to
have their press releases delivered electronically to the widest possible
array of media outlets including business and healthcare reporters at
newspapers and industry trade publications around the world at reduced fees.
Under the expanded program, all BIO members qualify for discounts on
membership, press releases and state-of-the-art web solutions in addition to
receiving a free crisis communications certificate. The program is open to
current PR Newswire customers who are also BIO members.
In the third year of their BIOPurchasing national agreement, BIO and
PR Newswire will focus on ways to help the industry gain a higher profile in
the news media.
"PR Newswire is a very responsive and industry savvy organization. I
encourage our members to take advantage of their market reach and the
savings," said Kaye Kirk, director of national group purchasing for BIO.
"PR Newswire is committed to increasing the visibility of its biotechnology
members," said Pamela Bartlett, PR Newswire's national market manager for
pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and healthcare. "We have superior public
relations tools such as NEWSdesk, the online news retrieval and tracking
system that provides our clients with quantitative reports on media access to
their news releases. As part of its total communications solution,
PR Newswire offers its members an opportunity to respond to journalists'
requests for expert information through ProfNet. Biotechnology companies can
benefit greatly from using these interactive tools."
As part of its partnership with the healthcare industry, PR Newswire has
allied with Orbis Broadcasting Group to offer a complete range of broadcast
communications services. Orbis, one of the largest producers of video news
releases, satellite media tours and other broadcast services in the United
States, has become an integral part of healthcare public relations programs
for the past 15 years and is the largest producer of health/medicine video
news releases.
