NEW YORK, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ --
EVENT: The American Stock Exchange(R) (Amex(R)), along with the other
two major exchanges, will open for trading at 9:30 AM on
September 11, 2003. In concert with the City of New York's
observances, the Amex, its employees, and market participants
will mark four moments of silence to pay tribute to the victims
of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The Amex
itself lost ten members on that day, and their memories will be
honored individually.
Amex officials will urge market participants to refrain from
trading activity during each of the four moments of silence.
In addition, the Amex will commemorate September 11 with a
special opening bell ringing ceremony in honor of the FDNY
firefighters who heroically sacrificed their lives that day.
FDNY firefighters will be joined on the bell platform by actors
Dan Lauria and Swoosie Kurtz who are performing in two special
benefit performances of The Guys, Anne Nelson's post-9/11 drama
of courage and fortitude in the face of unimaginable loss and
grief. The performances will take place on September 10 and 11
at the New York Historical Society. Proceeds from the
performance will be used for the museum's ongoing September 11
collecting, conservation, and educational efforts.
