ATLANTA, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Powell Goldstein LLP announced today the
2004 recipient of the Powell Goldstein Fellowship at the Atlanta Legal Aid
Society. Luke A. Lantta will work with Atlanta Legal Aid for a six-month
period. Recipients of the Fellowship, within the guidelines mutually
established by Atlanta Legal Aid and Powell Goldstein, work full-time as staff
attorneys at Atlanta Legal Aid for 4 to 6 months, in a program to develop
client counseling and advocacy skills while providing valuable legal services
to clients with low incomes.
James J. McAlpin, Jr., Chair of the Firm's Board of Partners and Executive
Committee, stated, "This fellowship program underscores our Firm's long-
standing commitment to pro-bono and community programs. In keeping with this
commitment, I am pleased to announce that this year's fellowship honors Frank
Love, Jr., whose long tenure and stellar career at Powell Goldstein and whose
commitment to Atlanta Legal Aid are well-known to the Atlanta community."
A former chair of the Litigation Department at Powell Goldstein, Mr. Love
also served as the President of the State Bar of Georgia. His service to the
legal profession has been recognized through his many awards.
Steve Gottlieb, Executive Director of Atlanta Legal Aid, stated that
"Powell Goldstein's creation of its Fellowship Program reasserts the Firm's
many years of faithful support of Atlanta Legal Aid's principles and its work.
It is particularly appropriate that the 2004 fellowship honors Frank Love
since he has been a trusted adviser for many years. Luke Lantta's interest in
serving as the third fellowship recipient is evidence of the success of the
program."
