Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation Appoints Local PennDOT Veteran to Department's Top Spot in Pittsburgh

    PITTSBURGH, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Secretary of
Transportation Bradley L. Mallory today announced the appointment of Raymond
S. Hack, P.E. as District Engineer for PennDOT's District 11 which includes
Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence Counties and the Fort Pitt, Liberty and
Squirrel Hill Tunnels.
    "Ray is the right choice at the right time in our continuing efforts to
move Pennsylvania forward into the 21st Century with a PennDOT organization
that is customer-focused and customer-driven," Mallory said.  "His strength is
his ability to work with people and he has demonstrated an ability to work
with elected officials to successfully solve transportation issues."
    Hack's career with the Department of Transportation spans 30 years.  Since
1996 Hack has been Assistant District Engineer of Design responsible for
developing engineering plans and contracts for over $200 million worth of
state and local projects annually.  From 1989 to 1996, Hack was maintenance
manager for Allegheny County, supervising a 233-person workforce with a
$60 million annual budget serving over a million motorists along one of the
most complex road and bridge systems in the Commonwealth.
    In his role as District Engineer, Hack will focus on PennDOT's Maintenance
First philosophy, work with the community on issues related to economic
development projects on Pittsburgh's North Shore, and work with such partners
as the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

region needs, what the region wants and what to do to get there," Mallory
said.
    Hack, his wife Christine, and their sons Dan and Jeff live in Shaler.
