NEW YORK, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- New York's Hotel Pennsylvania is proud
to have been selected as the location to display the Memorial Flag made to
honor the victims of the 9/11 tragedy in the Hotel lobby on Thursday,
September 12th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This flag has already been displayed in
select locations such as the Pentagon.
The Memorial Flag was conceived by Thomas McBrien IV, a contractor from
Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania, is 21 ft. x 31 ft. in size and took over
450 people and 5 months to stitch together. The Flag is composed of
3,014 miniature flags representing each victim, 86 hand-painted flags
representing countries that had victims involved in the tragedy and
hand-painted flags representing the service organizations that responded in
the search for victims.
"This is a living flag of our country," said Steven Leonard, the Hotel's
director of sales and marketing. "We want to remember all those that that lost
their lives during the 9/11 attacks."
The idea was created when Thomas McBrien IV wanted to buy a small American
flag to have with him following the events of 9/11 but to his dismay could not
find one. He thought to get the community involved in sewing one large flag
and approached various organizations, church groups, scouts, and senior
citizens, and before he knew it, everyone stared to get involved and were
willing to assist.
When asked about the Flag, Thomas McBrien IV noted, "A lot of people got
together to stitch this huge 9/11 Memorial Flag. It represents not only the
work involved in putting it together, but our nation, global community and the
healing ahead."
