Detroit Unplugged - IABC/Detroit Looks Behind the Scenes of the Blackout of 2003

    DETROIT, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- IABC/Detroit will give Sept. 22 luncheon
attendees a "Behind the Scenes" look at the communications plan behind the
Blackout of 2003.

WHO: Lorie Kessler, Director of Public Information and Media Relations
for DTE Energy

WHAT: Kessler will describe how her team worked the crisis of the year
with no computers, no telephones, and no power. Last August metro Detroit and
much of the eastern United States suddenly lost electrical power. Traffic
stopped; television sets went dark; and communications came to a halt. Even
for an organization like DTE Energy, which routinely tackles the fallout from
severe storms and inclement weather, the blackout proved the ultimate
challenge.
Kessler will explain how DTE's crisis planning and swift actions helped
keep employees, customers and the general public informed. She'll also
discuss how other organizations can prepare themselves for the unexpected.

WHY: DTE's handling of the blackout earned an IABC/Detroit "President's
Award" at this year's Renaissance Awards program.

WHERE & WHEN: The luncheon will be held at the Southfield Westin, located
at 1500 Town Center in Southfield from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Cost is $30 for
members and $35 for non-members. To make your reservation, please call Nancy
Skidmore at 248-546-5490 or nskidmore@earthlink.net
