Tampa Electric Nears Completion on Hurricane Frances Restoration Effort and Initiates Preparation For Hurricane Ivan

TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tampa Electric announced
this evening that it has restored more than 98 percent of the 268,000 peak
customer outages resulting from Hurricane Frances. This milestone was achieved
approximately 100 hours after Hurricane Frances exited Tampa Electric's
service territory. Fewer than 4,400 outages remain in Tampa Electric's service
territory, and the company continues its restoration efforts.
Vice President-Energy Delivery Tom Hernandez said, "We want to thank our
customers for their patience and cooperation over the past week. We know it
has been difficult for our customers, particularly those who are still without
power."
The company plans to continue Frances restoration on Saturday. On Sunday,
its team will patrol and prepare for Ivan's arrival. As high winds begin to
enter its service territory on Monday, the company will handle emergency calls
only.
"I'm incredibly proud of the resilience of our people, as we near
completion of our second major restoration of power in less than a month,"
Hernandez said.
"Each and every person at Tampa Electric is prepared to give the same 110
percent effort again," said Hernandez.
There may also be individual outages within Tampa Electric's service area
resulting from storm activity since Hurricane Frances. Customers without power
should contact Tampa Electric at 813-223-0800, (toll-free) 888-223-0800 or
(Polk County) 863-299-0800.
