The result of the workshop, "No Such Thing as Writer's Block: Creative

The advent of digital book printing and publishing technology such as
the Oce Digital Book Solution provides unique opportunities for young
authors and other aspiring writers to become published. It also empowers
cooperative ventures between the public and private sector such as the Oce
Future Authors Project, enabling students to benefit from a partnership
between educators and business experts. The Oce Future Authors Project is a
free program sponsored by the Oce North America Commercial Printing
Division in partnership with the School District of Palm Beach County,
Barnes & Noble, Maroone, and other local partners.
The program comprises a free workshop that provides students with an
opportunity to improve their writing skills, gain a hands-on understanding
of how authors become published, and learn about today's self-publishing
opportunities. Instruction is provided by certified teachers, through
interaction with Oce executives, and insight is provided by published
authors. The program is offered to public middle- and high-school students
who are interested in becoming published authors and have been selected by
local language arts teachers based on academic achievement and interest in
becoming authors. In recognition of the company's efforts in sponsoring and
supporting the program, Oce recently received the 2007 Output Links
Stewardship Award. This award is given to companies that exemplify good
stewardship through the investment of their time, resources, money, and
talent.
"Digital printing technology is revolutionizing the business of book
publishing and fueling trends like self-publishing in run lengths from one
to 10,000. This creates exciting opportunities for new talent-like these
young, aspiring authors-to pursue their dreams of getting their works
published, while bringing a rich diversity of titles to market. As a leader
in providing digital printing solutions for the book industry, Oce is proud
to support the Future Authors Program and to help make children's' dreams a
reality," said Oce Senior Director of Marketing Services, Sheryl Pattek.
The Oce Digital Book Solution combines production-class hardware with
Oce PRISMA(TM) pre-press and production workflow software and integrated
pre- and post-processing finishing technology. In this configuration, the

About the Oce Future Authors Workshop
The Oce Future Authors Project is a free program offered in partnership
with the School District of Palm Beach County, Barnes & Noble, Maroone and
other local partners to provide with a unique educational experience that
is not available as part of the regular school curriculum. The writing
workshop provides students with insight into the process of writing,
editing, and digitally self-publishing books through instruction by two
certified teachers, interactions with Oce executives, and hands-on
experience with successful local authors who volunteered their time to work
with the students. Nearly 40 students from Palm Beach County, FL public
middle and high schools participated in the second Oce Future Authors
Project summer writing workshop and will now become published authors.
Students who participated in the eight-day summer program receive copies of
their first published book, which is compiled, published, and printed
digitally by Oce. The camp, which was offered for the second consecutive
year in June 2007, is the first summer camp of its kind offered to students
who want to become published authors. For more information about the Oce
