SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ --
CBS MarketWatch.com (Nasdaq: MKTW), the leader in online financial news, will
make its print debut tomorrow in the nation's number one media market when it
becomes the primary business news provider to the Daily News Express, the new
evening commuter edition of the New York Daily News.
The announcement was made today by executives of MarketWatch.com, Inc. and
The Daily News in San Francisco and New York. CBS MarketWatch.com will also
provide a selection of its news and features to the Daily News' Website,
NYDailyNews.com.
Starting Tuesday, September 12, the Daily News Express will carry a varied
and colorful array of CBS MarketWatch.com news, features and commentary. The
paper's four-page business section will contain CBS MarketWatch.com's
up-to-the-minute market news, as well as personal finance, IPO and mutual fund
coverage, and many of the site's most popular weekly columns. They will
include Thom Calandra's StockWatch, Tom Kilgore's Market Map, Bambi
Francisco's Net Sense, Mike Tarsala's Tech Watch, Mike Molinski's FundWatch
and Jon Friedman's Media Web, along with commentary from Irwin Kellner and
Marshall Loeb. A more limited selection of news and features will appear on
the Daily News' Web site.
"CBS MarketWatch.com's debut in the Daily News Express is truly a
breakthrough for us. It is our first foray into print journalism -- one that
raises our profile in the nation's largest media market," said Larry Kramer,
CEO of MarketWatch.com and a former newspaperman. "CBS MarketWatch.com will
reach investment-minded consumers through the full range of media -- the
Internet, television, radio, and now print, in partnership with one of the
most exciting newspapers in the country."
"By offering CBS MarketWatch.com content, the Daily News Express will be
providing our readers the highest quality, most up-to the minute financial
news," said Brian Moss, Editor of The Daily News Express. "By combining CBS
MarketWatch.com and Daily News business coverage, we're bringing together two
great teams of reporters."
"Our relationship with CBS MarketWatch.com is the latest in a series of
partnerships that the Daily news is forging with a variety of media," said
Marie DeParis, Daily News Senior Vice President, Strategic marketing. "This
past spring, we agreed to provide Daily News content to WCBS television,
bringing our unique New York perspectives to a broadcast audience. We believe
alliances of all kinds are essential in today's multi-media environment."
Announced last month, The Daily News Express will be distributed free to
commuters at bus, subway and train stations and other locations in Manhattan
and downtown Brooklyn. The 40-page edition will include late-breaking news,
sports and entertainment updates in addition to a three to four-page business
section. The paper will have an initial circulation of 75,000.
