GARDENA, Calif., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- To commemorate the one-year
anniversary of the September 11 tragedy and to honor its heroes, past and
present, thousands of employees of Nissan North America, Inc. will observe a
moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. on September 11. Additional company-wide
observances will take place at all of Nissan's major facilities in the United
States plus our regional offices in the New York and Washington D.C. areas.
Nissan will also make a series of donations to local area organizations
that participated in the search and rescue missions on September 11, or who
provide these services for their communities. These efforts are in addition
to the $1 million donation from Nissan to the American Red Cross and the Twin
Towers Fund during the first week following the September 11 terrorist
attacks.
"One year ago, the global community watched in horror as the events of
September 11 unfolded in New York, in Washington, D.C. and in the skies above
Pennsylvania," said Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO, Nissan Motor Company,
Ltd. "All of us at Nissan have been deeply moved by those tragic events. Our
hearts remain with those who were forever affected by the tragedy and its
aftermath."
During the past year, Nissan companies and its employees continued to
provide support to those impacted by the events of September 11 by organizing
blood drives, providing vehicles to aid in the clean-up process, sponsoring a
USO Tour, providing vehicle financing relief and donating nearly $400,000 in
addition to Nissan's initial corporate gift.
"Looking forward, we urge people everywhere to join Nissan in expressing
gratitude to the tens of thousands of volunteers who are working to heal a
nation," Ghosn continued. "We support the tireless efforts of those dedicated
to making this world a safer, more peaceful place to work and live."
