Pennsylvania Education Secretary Joins Dauphin County Elementary School for Sept. 11 Observance

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Pa. Education Secretary Charles
B. Zogby today joined students, teachers and administrators from South Side
Elementary School, Central Dauphin School District, Dauphin County, to mark
the one-year observance of the Sept. 11 attacks on America.
Secretary Zogby led students and faculty in the Pledge of Allegiance, as
part of an observance ceremony held at the school's flagpole.
"Children across the state and country are gathering today to not only
remember those who lost their lives, but to reflect, remember and celebrate
the wonderful freedoms we have as Americans," said Secretary Zogby. "Many
heroic stories surfaced in the days, weeks and months following the attacks,
and today is a day to honor them as well. It's also an opportunity to
recognize and thank our everyday unsung heroes, like teachers and parents, who
listened and talked with our children during this sad and confusing time in
their lives."
In weeks leading up to Sept. 11, 2002, Department of Education officials
have worked with schools across the state to provide ideas on how schools can
commemorate the one-year mark, and how to help children cope with the day.
