AURORA, Colo., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company announced the
successful ground system integration and delivery of the ECLIPSE(R) command
and control software to Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS) for integration into
Hughes Network System's SPACEWAY satellite network.
Hughes Network Systems is procuring three Boeing 702 satellites from BSS
with the first SPACEWAY satellite scheduled to launch in 2004 over North
America. The SPACEWAY broadband satellite network will provide full-mesh
connectivity for efficient delivery of high-bandwidth services.
Raytheon provided the system integration and test of the SPACEWAY
satellite ground control system at control center sites in Texas, Colorado,
and California. The ground control system consists of Boeing-provided control
centers, support facilities and satellite operational procedures; Raytheon's
command and control software, hardware and baseband equipment.
"The SPACEWAY program illustrates Raytheon's success as a ground system
integrator," said Ray Kolibaba, vice president of Space Systems. "The work
highlights our ability in adding additional spacecraft types (a commercial
Boeing 702 spacecraft) to the list of ECLIPSE(R) applications."
Scheduled for service launch in 2004, SPACEWAY will provide full-mesh
connectivity for efficient delivery of high-bandwidth services. In addition to
its unique peer-to-peer architecture, SPACEWAY incorporates many other
advanced features-such as packet switching, spot beams, and bandwidth-on-
demand. It operates in the Ka-band and is expected to open up a wealth of
opportunities for delivering high-speed multimedia services to North American
enterprises.
