RENO, Nev., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Laverne and Shirley(TM), the Fifties
TV sitcom friends who "schlemiel-schlamazeled" their way into comedy history
in the late Seventies, will be the theme for a forthcoming IGT video slot
machine based on the show.
The characters of Laverne De Fazio (played by Penny Marshall) and Shirley
Feeney (Cindy Williams), first introduced on the hit show Happy Days(TM), were
two twenty-something women who shared a Milwaukee apartment and worked at the
Shotz Brewery. Laverne and Shirley(TM) painted a comedic picture of the 1950s
from the point of view of single, independent women. Their actions and
attitudes cast them as two of television's first liberated females.
"There's a rich comedy storehouse with Laverne, Shirley, 'Squiggy'
Squigman, Lenny Kosnowski and the rest of the cast of characters from the
show," said John Sears, IGT's vice president of MegaJackpots(TM). "There are
so many great lines and situations we can draw from, to create an entertaining
video slot based on the series."
IGT's Laverne and Shirley(TM) video slot will be introduced at the Global
Gaming Expo in Las Vegas, Sept. 16-18.
