American Microsystems, Ltd. Goes 'Wireless With Linux' at Frontline Solutions Expo 2002 Booth 1738

EULESS, Texas, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- American Microsystems, Ltd., a
leading developer and manufacturer of reliable, high performance bar code and
automatic data collection products, goes "Wireless with Linux" at Frontline
Solutions 2002.
American Microsystems, Ltd. will premiere a new generation of innovative,
wireless data collection products at Frontline Solutions 2002 in Chicago from
September 24 - 26, 2002. AML's new wireless data collection products maximize
flexibility, performance, and value in mobile data collection computing and
are ideally suited for real-time, information-intensive applications in
retail, distribution, warehousing, manufacturing, and health care.
American Microsystems Ltd. will introduce the following new products:

    M7100 Wireless Hand-Held Terminal
The AML M7100 Wireless Hand-Held Terminal is redefining the standard for
wireless data collection technology. Incorporating the best of today's
wireless technology, with the reliable performance of open source, embedded
Linux(R), the M7100 optimizes operational efficiency and productivity --
ensuring the rapid, timely processing of mission critical data, even in the
most demanding applications.
Powered by the fast Intel(R) StrongARM(R) processor, the M7100 is equipped
with 16MB of built-in RAM and 4MB Flash ROM for ample storage capacity. Its
internal radio supports IEEE 802.11b wireless local area network (WLAN)
connectivity for real-time, high-rate data transfer. Extended operation is
ensured by the M7100's enhanced power management, which supports eight-hour
work shifts without recharging.
The M7100 integrates into a wide range of computing environments and
supports AML's Windows(R) compatible CommandLink(TM) wireless data collection
software, C++, and Basic. Options are also available for terminal emulation
and client/server applications.
Rugged yet ergonomically designed, the M7100 provides comfort and ease of
use in scan-intensive applications. The M7100 sports a lightweight, contoured
design for comfortable, one-handed operation over extended periods of use.
The graphical 160 x 160 backlit LCD with multi-font capability is easy to
read, even in dimly lit environments. The spacious LCD supports the display
of large amounts of information, minimizing the need for screen scrolling.
The M7100 is designed to provide maximum flexibility across a wide range
of data collection applications. The M7100 features an easy-to-use 55-key
alphanumeric keypad, multiple integrated scanner options, RS-232 and infrared
communication ports. Accessories include a removable pistol grip with
trigger, communications/charging cradle, and holster.

AML CommandLink(TM) Wireless Data Collection Software
CommandLink software is a Windows(R) compatible development tool that
enables the rapid design, testing, and deployment of wireless local area
network (WLAN) applications for the AML M7100 Series wireless terminals.
CommandLink also provides the tools necessary to manage and monitor the
wireless network, once applications are deployed. Powerful and comprehensive,
CommandLink can help any business decrease the time and costs associated with
the development and deployment of real-time, wireless data collection
applications.
CommandLink is comprised of three modules -- CL Developer, CL
Communicator, and CL Administrator. The CL Developer is an integrated
programming environment where developers can visually design wireless data
collection programs. The CL Developer allows users to interface interactively
with existing ODBC or OLE DB databases. Simple wireless applications can be
built within minutes.
In addition to its event-based architecture, the CL Developer offers many
other advanced features including data validation, object oriented
development, and an application simulator -- where developers can run and test
applications before deployment. For more complex applications, developers can
extend the functionality of the CL Developer using VBScript (Visual Basic)
scripting language.
After applications are developed and tested, the CL Communicator controls
the communication and interaction between mobile terminals and database server
backends. The CL Communicator displays system status data, retrieves
connection information, and allows administrators to view error and activity
logs. The CL Administrator handles security issues and controls user accounts
and user access.
"It's a very exciting time for American Microsystems," said Mike Kearby,
President of American Microsystems, Ltd. "We are extremely proud to be one of
