Some isolated outages may remain; customers are asked to
report them to the company
TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tampa Electric this
evening reported that the company's major restoration efforts following
Hurricane Frances are complete. Peak outages during the hurricane were
268,000, well over a third of Tampa Electric's overall customer base.
Vice President-Energy Delivery Tom Hernandez said, "Dealing with hurricane
aftermath for the second time in less than a month has been challenging for
our team, and I know it has been challenging for the community, particularly
those who went without electricity. I offer our sincere thanks to all our
customers for their patience and cooperation."
Hernandez advised that there may be some individual power outages the
company is not aware of, including from weather situations following Hurricane
Frances. Any customers currently without power are asked to call the company
at the following numbers:
* Hillsborough: 813-223-0800
* Polk: 863-299-0800
* Toll-free: 888-223-0800
Tampa Electric does continue to face continued power outages due to trees
and tree limbs interfering with the company's equipment due to storm
conditions. This interference may exist even when a customer's power is on.
Customers who notice trees or tree limbs interfering with electrical
equipment in their area are asked to contact Tampa Electric immediately, and
not attempt to remove anything themselves. For safety reasons, customers
should never go near Tampa Electric's equipment.
With the Hurricane Frances restoration effort essentially complete, Tampa
Electric has released all out-of-state utility workers to assist other Florida
utilities. The company's own crews will continue working on any tree-trimming
or line repair work that remains, working out of the company's regular
operations centers. The storm incident bases have been closed.
