SCANTECH '99
CLEVELAND, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- A powerful lineup of technical and
market experts will convene in Chicago, October 5-7, 1999 to address the
future of data collection (ADC) terminals with the industry's leading VARs,
resellers, system integrators and software developers at the inaugural Mobile
Enterprise Data Collection Developers Conference. The Mobile Enterprise
Conference will be held in conjunction with SCANTECH '99.
"The timing of this conference is critical. The ADC industry is in the
midst of a major change. Hand-held computing is not new to the ADC industry,
however, the standardized operating systems in the next generation terminals
are new. Data collection terminals will become easier to use, allowing them
to capture, track and share information in more places than ever before," said
Tom Conlon, general manager for SCANTECH '99.
SCANTECH '99 is the world's largest event focusing on solutions for data
collection and mobile information management. The 18th annual event will bring
together nearly 300 exhibitors in over 900 booths and present a world-class
conference with 50 seminar sessions, in addition to the Mobile Enterprise
Conference.
The keynote address for the conference will be delivered by Larry Downes,
co-author of "Unleashing the Killer App: Digital Strategies for Market
Dominance," a New York Times and Business Week best seller.
The Northwestern University author and professor will discuss how
mobile/wireless computing will dramatically alter the business landscape in
the coming years. He will zero in on how to integrate digital strategy into an
organization's planning process to create new markets, form new customer
relationships and change the product line. Downes' presentation is sponsored
by Riverbed Technologies.
David J. Collins, CEO of Data Capture Institute and one of world's ranking
experts on ADC, will follow Downes with a look at why the ADC industry is on
the brink of dramatic change, particularly when integrated with the internet
and enterprise-wide information technology systems. Collins, instrumental in
the original creation of the modern-day bar code, will present directions on
how to navigate through the changing landscape.
Don Chouinard, Microsoft's marketing manager for Windows CE, will examine
the company's new software phenomenon and detail Microsoft's vision of the
Digital Nervous System, which he says can unite all systems and processes
under one common infrastructure, allowing companies to make quantum leaps in
efficiency, growth and profits.
"The Palm Economy," will be the focus of a presentation by Maurice Sharp,
professional services manager for Palm Computing, who will discuss the current
state of the Palm OS platform, including licensees and OEMs. Sharp will
explain why the Palm OS platform provides the devices, development tools and
solutions that can be used to create and deploy low-cost solutions to
customers.
Another major presenter, Larry Roshfeld, vice president of Riverbed
Technologies, will provide a closing keynote examining the exploding mobile
data collection industry and the requirements for deploying production-ready
solutions that meet the demand for mobile enterprise access, scalability,
manageability and performance.
In all, the conference will include more than 20 sessions. They will
examine every facet of wireless/mobile computing, including programs which
focus on wireless LAN revolution, RF application development, new technologies
and the effects on the supply chain, the state of Windows CE in the
distribution environment, understanding operating systems, ERP connectivity
solutions and more.
The first 300 registrants to the conference will receive a complimentary
copy of the Windows CE Visual Basic 6.0 Developers kit, complements of
Microsoft Corporation.
Supporting sponsors for the conference includes Microsoft, Intermec
Technologies, Riverbed Technologies, Symbol Technologies, WRQ, Automatic ID
News, and AIM, Inc.
