Come to the Edge Conference Responds to Call to Service Issued by President Bush during 9/11 Commemorative Address

Keynote Presenters Include Global Luminaries and Volunteers

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Starshine Foundation, a learning
research organization dedicated to convening global conversations about
critical world issues, today announced that it will hold its third Come to the
Edge conference from October 16 to 19 at the Ontario Convention Center in
Ontario, California. President Bush in his address yesterday said, "All of us
can become a September the 11th volunteer by making a commitment to service in
our own communities." The conference showcases extraordinary individuals
committing to the real work of being in service to others. Their stories show
how they have, and we can, answer the question, "What can I do?" Additionally,
the four-day event will feature conversations and workshops with
world-renowned luminaries who are at the forefront of knowledge in the fields
of business, science, art, religion and education.
Sue Miller Hurst, a pioneer in brain/mind research, former core researcher
and facilitator of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Dialogue
Project, Fortune 100 consultant and founder of Starshine Foundation will lead
the event. The conference design is based on Miller Hurst's research on
optimal learning environments and involves a rich orchestration of the
intuitive and the rational, the inventive and the systematic, the silent and
the spoken intelligences with the objective of evoking extraordinary
capacities and activating the will to serve.
"What's unique about Come to the Edge is that it draws innovators--both
presenters and participants -- who dare to live and learn at the edge. As
individuals, one by one, we make a difference -- yet, it is as a collective
that we transform the world," said Miller Hurst.
Each day of the conference has a theme, and they are in order from the
first to the final day: "Gathering at the Edge," "Challenging our
Assumptions," "Living into Potential," and "Committing to the Real Work."
Prestigious speakers on the subject of "Committing to the Real Work"
include Nancy Rivard, 1999 Woman of the Year and founder of Airline
Ambassadors; Rod Washington, featured on a September 11 commemorative CD; The
International Peace Choir, comprised of children from six to seventeen who
represent over forty-five countries; and Greg Smith, thirteen-year-old college
senior, founder of International Youth Advocates and nominee for the Nobel
Peace Prize.
Other illustrious presenters include Father Thomas Keating, founder of
Contemplative Outreach and author of Open Mind, Open Heart; Peter Senge (via
interactive video), Senior Lecturer at MIT, Founding Chair of the Society for
Organizational Learning and author of The Fifth Discipline: The Art and
Practice of the Learning Organization; and Arthur Joseph, famed Hollywood
vocal coach and author of Sound of the Soul. A complete list of presenters
will be announced in the next few days.
"The first two Come to the Edge conferences were life-changing experiences
for me. I was exposed to cutting-edge ideas and experiences and became part of
a community of innovative leaders who are changing the world for the better.
I'm looking forward to Come to the Edge 2002 to give me a fresh dose of
insight and inspiration for my work supporting the next generation of global
entrepreneurs," said Tom Kosnik, Consulting Professor at Stanford School of
Engineering.
