RENO, Nev., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Reno Air, Inc.
(Nasdaq: RENO; PCX: RNO) today announced it flew 284.7 million revenue
passenger miles (RPMs) in August 1998, 8.4 percent below the 310.9 million
RPMs flown in August 1997. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 5.6 percent
to 400.2 million from the August 1997 level of 424.4 million. Reno Air
carried 492,112 passengers in August with a load factor of 71.2 percent down
from 73.4 percent in 1997.
In June, the airline reduced its operating fleet by two aircraft and
ceased service to five cities to optimize revenues and reduce costs. "Our
strategy of developing our under-utilized, higher-yielding hub in San Jose is
producing greater unit revenue with fewer passengers," said Senior Vice
President Marketing and Planning Joanne Smith.
"We are delighted to announce the commencement of service between Orange
County and Seattle effective September 15 and between San Jose and Burbank
effective October 1," said Smith. In celebration of the new service, Reno Air
is offering double American AAdvantage between Orange County and Seattle and
between San Jose and Burbank. Reno Air is currently offering its passengers
flying between Los Angeles and San Jose triple American AAdvantage Miles.
"Since May, we have focused on improving our product, specifically
-- reservations, on-board service, aircraft cleanliness, and on-time
performance. And it's working -- according to Department of Transportation
Statistics, we outperformed the best of the major airlines in on-time
performance," said Smith.
Reno Air offers convenient pre-reserved seating, American Airlines
AAdvantage Miles, a spacious first class cabin, "EZtrip" ticketless travel and
full participation in all major computer reservation systems.
