LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Ralphs Grocery Company is providing
employment opportunities to Hurricane Katrina victims who have been displaced
to Los Angeles.
As part of its ongoing efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina,
Ralphs is offering jobs in its supermarkets to affected Gulf Coast residents
who are being temporarily housed at The Dream Center in Los Angeles' Echo Park
neighborhood.
Six displaced New Orleans residents will begin their employment with
Ralphs on Thursday, September 15 at 8 a.m. at the supermarket company's store
at 3410 West Third Street in Los Angeles.
"Ralphs has a history of helping people and communities in need," said
Dave Hirz, president of Ralphs. "Providing employment to hurricane victims
who have been displaced to our community is an extension of our commitment to
help those in need. Offering employment in our supermarkets is one small way
that we can help these people through the recovery process."
Ralphs is also encouraging the general public to donate to emergency
relief efforts through its 400 supermarkets. All monies collected will be
forwarded to the American Red Cross for relief efforts tied to Hurricane
Katrina.
In addition, Ralphs is offering its 25,000 employees a convenient way to
help, and the company's foundation (The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Foundation) will
match donations from employees.
Ralphs Grocery Company was founded in 1873 and currently operates more
than 400 conventional and warehouse-style supermarkets under the Ralphs, Food
4 Less, Foods Co and Cala/Bell banners in California, Nevada, Illinois, and
