Bayer and Bomanite Form Joint Venture: QC Construction Products

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Corporation and Bomanite
Corporation, Madera, Calif., today announced a joint venture providing a full
line of products for the architectural concrete market made with quality
Bayferrox(R) iron oxide pigments. Bayer and Bomanite are partners in the
50/50 joint venture company, QC Construction Products LLC. The joint venture
is a result of a strategic alliance the two companies began last year.
Under the terms of the agreement, Bomanite will provide marketing and
management services and some manufacturing for QC Construction Products LLC,
and Bayer will supply all manufacturing of integral color products. Bayferrox
iron oxide pigments are manufactured at the Bayer New Martinsville, West
Virginia production site -- the largest and most advanced iron oxide
production facility in North America. The plant has earned ISO 9002
certification, ensuring quality and consistency of the Bayferrox product.
"We've combined the long-standing market leadership positions, resources,
experience and knowledge of both Bomanite and Bayer with sound, comprehensive
strategic business plans aimed at providing superior quality, value and
service to the architectural colored ready-mix concrete marketplace," said
Matthew S. Stegemiller, Chairman, Bomanite Corporation. "QC Construction
Products is dedicated to playing a leadership role in accelerating the growth
of this market."
Pure synthetically produced iron oxide Bayferrox pigments are insoluble,
light fast, alkali and lime resistant, and stable under exposure to sunlight
and UV radiation. Bayferrox pigments comply with ASTM C979 Pigments for
Integrally Colored Concrete and can be added to ready-mixed concrete for
virtually any area -- including residential, commercial and municipal
applications such as retail centers, theme parks, restaurants, office
buildings, golf courses, plazas, malls, hotels, resorts, and sound walls
poured on-site. "With 25 standard colors and limitless custom colors, there's
virtually no architectural concrete color challenge that QC Construction
Products can't solve," commented John L. Williams, President, Coatings and
Colorants Division, Bayer Corporation. "This joint venture will provide the
ready mix/integrally-colored concrete industry with the design and color
options, resources and expertise needed to meet the growing demands of their
residential and commercial customers." QC Construction Products offers a full
