Colorado's 100 Most Influential Members of the Media Recognized; KHOW's Peter Boyles Named Colorado Media Person of the Year

DENVER, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- You rely on them every day to deliver the
news and voice their opinions.
Now, find out who are Colorado's 100 most influential media people in the
first annual "Colorado Media 100" magazine and web site. (An alphabetical
list appears at the end.)
More than one year in the making, the Colorado Media 100 searched
throughout the state to identify the journalists and news personalities who do
the most to establish and sway public opinion. Those listed come from all
areas of the state, all media, and include a wide variety of news beats,
including politics, business, sports, gossip, travel, features and
photography.
Readers of the Colorado Media 100 magazine and web site will recognize
many familiar names, but also will find the state hosts many journalists who
have substantial clout, but not necessarily high visibility in Colorado.
In addition, the Colorado Media 100 establishes the first annual Colorado
Media Person of the Year recognition. This year, the magazine's editorial
staff selects Denver's Peter Boyles, a talk show host on KHOW, for his success
at driving debate on a variety of important news topics. Mr. Boyles not only
attracts Colorado area listeners and viewers, he enjoys a national following
due to his frequent guest spots on national cable and broadcast media
programs.
In a letter appearing in the inaugural edition of the Colorado Media 100,
Governor Bill Owens calls a free press "the cornerstone of a strong
democracy." U.S. Senator Wayne Allard likewise expresses his appreciation for
those selected to this year's list, noting "their hard work and dedication to
the many issues that affect Colorado citizens."
Colorado Media 100 is published by the TJFR Group, a globally recognized
publisher of media-related trade newsletters and magazines, in association
with PR Newswire, the world leader in the electronic delivery of breaking news
releases and information directly from companies, institutions and agencies to
the media, financial community and consumers.
Recognition in the Colorado Media 100 is open to all working journalists
and media personalities from newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the
Internet who work in Colorado or are employed by a Colorado-based news
organization. This year's listing is based upon those individuals who were
qualified as of July 31, 1999, for the positions they held at that time.
Publishers and broadcast general managers were not eligible.
The Colorado Media 100 editorial staff were responsible for making the
final selections, based upon their own research as well as recommendations of
many members of the state's media and from individuals frequently covered by
the media.
Influence is the main ingredient common to all 100 members of this year's
list. As editor Bruce Goldberg notes in his introduction to the issue:
"Influence comes in many varieties. There is the ability to influence
readers, viewers and listeners. There is the influence that comes with
controlling important news outlets and their staffs. There is stature, both
locally and nationally, as a credible media person. And there is the
influence that comes from telling the rest of the world about doings in
Colorado."
The Colorado Media 100 magazine will be distributed free of charge to
1,500 leading journalists and media personalities throughout the state,
beginning Sept. 15, 1999. (Copies also may be purchased through TJFR for
$29.95 by calling Chris T. Day, marketing director, at (303) 296-1200,
ext. 107.) The complete list with related articles and photos also can be
viewed by the general public beginning Sept. 15, 1999 on the Internet at
http://www.newsluminaries.com .
The TJFR Group, PR Newswire and Coors Brewing Company will host a free
after-work reception for honorees and working journalists on Friday, Dec. 3,
1999 at the Denver Press Club, 1330 Glenarm Place. Those journalists wishing
to attend should RSVP to Editor Bruce Goldberg at (303) 296-1200, ext. 104.
