CMP Media Announces Strong Pre-Show Registration for East Coast's Premier Embedded Systems Exhibition

ESC Boston Addresses Critical Design Issues and Showcases More Than
                 120 Exhibitors With Breakthrough Technology

BOSTON, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CMP Media (Nasdaq: UNEWY) today
announced strong pre-show registration for its Embedded Systems Conference
(ESC) Boston (http://www.embedded.com/esc) to be held in the Hynes Convention Center,
September 15-18, 2003. Early numbers indicate that ESC Boston, the East
Coast's premier educational forum for engineers and engineering managers
developing processor-based systems, is expected to attract more than
3,000 members of the embedded computing community.
"Developing low-cost, "smart" products, continues to be a major challenge
for embedded systems developers," stated Lindsey Vereen, conference director.
"The goal of the Embedded Systems Conference Boston is to deliver a robust
training program that offers practical information about methodologies that
engineers can use to solve real-life design challenges."
More than 120 exhibitors including Motorola, Green Hills Software, Mentor
Graphics, Tektronix and Xilinx are slated to exhibit. ESC Boston provides
attendees with the opportunity to experience the latest embedded hardware and
software technology products, as well as to explore solutions critical to
embedded design challenges.
"Motorola Computer Group is focusing on new market opportunities as we
continue to provide our customers with complete solutions built to industry
standards," said Wendy Vittori, vice president and general manager, Motorola
Computer Group. "At this year's Embedded Systems Conference Boston, we will be
highlighting our standards-based technologies that allow customers to enhance
their products and get them to market quickly and cost effectively. This event
provides an excellent opportunity for us to meet new and existing customers in
person, strengthen relationships, and educate attendees on our latest product
developments through product demos and technical workshops on the exhibit
floor."

    Embedded in Action- Demo Event
In addition to the exhibit floor and classes, attendees can also partake
in this year's ESC Boston Embedded in Action event, which features
demonstrations of end-user and consumer products powered by innovative
embedded technology. The following product demonstrations can be seen from
2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tues. Sept 16 at booth #323:

    Event Keynote
    On Tuesday, September 16, 10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Jack Ganssle, writer
for Embedded Systems Programming, will explore the "Lessons We Haven't
Learned" and the potential risks associated with firmware problems. Ganssle
will provide a "lore of firmware disasters," with stories of both well known
and largely unfamiliar system crashes, all of which resulted from poor
software engineering. He will look at each crash, and extract must-learn
lessons that attendees can use to help rethink their product development
strategies.

    Timely Educational Sessions
ESC Boston's 70+ conference sessions will delve into hot design topics,
including wireless, serial communications, Linux/Open Source, real-time
development and software design. These sessions will focus on delivering the
technical insight necessary to make embedded system designs better, faster,
and more reliable. Each class and tutorial will also provide practical answers
to the toughest questions, and teach skills and techniques that can be
implemented immediately. To view a detailed schedule of the conference
