Online Success Discussed at Chicagoland Library

CHICAGO, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Kravitz, Internet author and
former Web content manager for Global Supply Net in New York City and the
International Sanitary Supply Association, Inc., (ISSA) Lincolnwood, IL, will
be presenting a class entitled Web Success - Web Writing and Design sponsored
by the North Suburban Library System (NSLS). The event will be held at NSLS'
headquarters, 200 West Dundee Road in Wheeling, IL. on Thursday, September 23,
2004, starting at 1:30 pm.
The two-hour presentation will cover four major Internet-related topics,
which include:

     1. A brief history of the Internet from its early beginnings as a secret
        government communication system in 1969

     2. How to write and present online content

     3. Designing and evaluating a Web site

     4. Current Internet capabilities and future direction

According to Kravitz, "Today, just about anyone can create a Web site.
However, to make a Web site that is 'reader focused,' has an inviting design,
and can be used as a marketing, selling, or promotional tool takes a bit more
skill."

    Beginning Maturity
Kravitz says that by the late 1990s, everyone knew the Internet was a
powerful and important new medium, but few seemed to know what worked online
and what did not. "Web designers were like new born babies that wanted to try
everything," says Kravitz. "However, today the industry is beginning to
mature. We have a better understanding of how to build and maintain an
effective Web site."
The event will include a discussion on Web writing and content
presentation, which should be helpful to anyone building, designing, or
managing a Web site. "Writing for the Web is much different than writing for
a magazine or a newspaper," says Kravitz. "The better one understands the
difference and how to present material online, the more successful they will
be communicating on the Internet."
