JUNO BEACH, Fla., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company
crews have made significant progress restoring service to customers following
Tropical Storm Gabrielle and will be working throughout the night to finish
restoring service. FPL expects all customer electric service restoration will
be essentially complete in the morning.
Currently more than 1,750 personnel are directly engaged in restoration
activities in the Bradenton-Sarasota region where the storm made landfall on
Friday.
"Florida Power & Light is very appreciative of the patience and
understanding of our customers," said Armando Olivera, senior vice president
of power systems. "We want to assure everyone that our workers will stay on
the job until we have restored service to every customer who experienced storm
damage. We regret any inconvenience caused by Tropical Storm Gabrielle."
FPL said some extra crews will remain in the Bradenton-Sarasota area and
in St. Johns County in northeast Florida for the next several days to complete
street light work and other clean up efforts, as well as to handle any new
calls that may be generated when businesses re-open Monday or residents return
from out-of-town trips.
As of 9 p.m. Sunday, 26,000 customers were without power.
