First-in-the-Market Solution Speeds RFID Deployment by Allowing Retailers To
Realize ROI Benefits and Ensure Vendor Compliance
CHICAGO, Frontline's International Supply Chain Week, Booth 1211, Sept. 16
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Printronix Inc. (Nasdaq: PTNX), the leading
manufacturer of integrated enterprise printing solutions for the supply chain,
today announced it has joined with the Manhattan Associates team to develop
components for Manhattan Associates' (Nasdaq: MANH) "RFID in a Box" solution.
Printronix will supply RFID smart label printing solutions to Manhattan
Associates as an optional component in its "RFID in a Box" solution. The
bundled package will contain Printronix's T5000e thermal printer and an RFID
kit for the encoding of smart labels to complement the supply-chain execution
applications and professional services from Manhattan Associates and RFID tags
and readers from Alien Technology.
"Retail suppliers gain tremendous value from the 'RFID in a Box'
solution," said Andy Chapman, chief technology officer and senior vice
president of engineering and product marketing, Printronix. "With the addition
of Printronix's T5000e thermal printer, RFID kit and PrintNet(R) Enterprise,
users will realize immediate benefits of RFID, such as real-time inventory
control, accelerated ROI and increased operational efficiency."
Printronix's T5000e is a Web-enabled, industrial-grade thermal bar code
printer designed for the type of exacting label applications retail suppliers
require. The fully integrated RFID kit enables the T5000e to encode smart
labels with an electronic product code (EPC) or other data and operates within
the UHF range. When combined with PrintNet Enterprise, the T5000e effectively
provides management control of all mission-critical bar coding and RFID
applications. PrintNet Enterprise is a Web-enabled remote network print
management system that greatly reduces printer downtime and facilitates
substantial cost reduction in any distribution or manufacturing environment.
When these benefits are applied to the creation of RFID smart labels,
efficiencies are even further increased.
Printronix's smart label solution addition to "RFID in a Box" will further
enable vendors to meet current and future RFID compliance requirements. It is
another advancement in a rapidly evolving RFID and electronic product code
(EPC) strategy Printronix began to unveil this month.
"Printronix provides a critical link in helping retail suppliers deploy
their own RFID initiatives," said Rap McBurney, vice president of alliances,
Manhattan Associates. "By partnering with Printronix to enhance 'RFID in a
Box,' we're giving retailers and their suppliers an uncomplicated way to
implement RFID technology and define their own RFID strategies."
According to Tom Pounds, vice president of corporate development and
product strategy, Alien Technology, Printronix printers are an ideal delivery
solution for its RFID tags and smart labels, combining maximum control with
optimal reliability.
"Giving customers a low-cost and hassle-free RFID deployment experience is
our goal with 'RFID in a Box,' and Printronix's smart label solution takes the
concept one step farther. The T5000e RFID kit and PrintNet Enterprise gives
the guaranteed printing solution retail suppliers need in their
mission-critical environments."

About Alien Technology Inc.
Alien Technology provides a full array of RFID hardware and capabilities
needed to create robust and low cost RFID solutions. The company has
developed a manufacturing technology that will dramatically reduce the cost of
RFID tags, and offers an economic path to assemble the ultra-high volumes of
tags that will ultimately be demanded in supply chain, logistics,
authentication, and many other applications. The core manufacturing
technology, called Fluidic Self-Assembly, permits the highly efficient
assembly of tiny integrated circuits, called NanoBlock(TM) ICs, into rolls of
plastic film. This fundamentally new approach to electronics packaging offers
dramatic cost advantages over conventional techniques. Savings are driven by
both lower silicon costs and the efficiency inherent in the massively parallel
assembly process. For additional information, visit http://www.alientechnology.com .
