Collaboration Explained: Facilitation Skills for Software
Project Leaders
Based on the speaker's book Collaboration Explained, this
half-day tutorial plunges participants straight into an
environment of exercises and interactions that impart simple
tools and techniques for team collaborations: How to prepare
yourself as a team lead for focused, effective team meetings;
how to prepare team members for participatory decision-making
and lead them through the brainstorming that brings out their
greatest wisdom; how to capture the team's wisdom in their
decisions and actions; how to bring teams through conflict into
consensus; and how to guide teams to inspect and adapt their
team agreements. Exercises will be set in the context of
software project teams moving to collaborative versus
command-and-control cultures particularly in the realm of
Agile software development.
Flow, Pull, Innovate: The Greening of the Software Industry for
the 21st Century
During the 20th century, many materials-based industries relied
on a Take-Make-Waste model of product development, delivery and
selling. But a 21st century perspective on a growing scarcity of
resources and the expense of waste has led such industries to
revisit this model of doing business and move to what are known
as "Green Businesses"; that is, businesses in which waste is
viewed as a drain on both the economy and the innovation of the
business. We believe the software industry must also abandon its
Take-Make-Waste model of product delivery and selling, and
aggressively adopt a "Green Business" stance: Eliminate waste
and increase innovation. In this presentation, Tabaka invites
participants to explore their vision around the greening of the
software industry
