Fifth Annual Taking Steps to Fight Breast Cancer Program Features 2008
Limited-Edition Slip-Knot Charm Bracelet for Only $2; 100 Percent of Net
Profits from Bracelet Sales Go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R)
TOPEKA, Kan., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- This October, Payless
will inspire shoppers to show their support for breast cancer awareness
with this year's must-have accessory item -- the 2008 slip-knot bracelet.
The nation's largest specialty footwear retailer is, once again, proud to
offer a limited-edition, breast cancer awareness item for just $2 in all
its stores and Payless.com(R) -- enabling everyone to support the cause.
"The popularity of last year's slip-knot bracelet spurred us to bring
the item back for 2008," said LuAnn Via, president and chief executive
officer for Payless. "Our breast cancer awareness program is very
democratic and accessible -- offered chain-wide in all our nearly 4,500
stores for just $2. At this price point, we are working hard to ensure
everybody can join in and support this important cause."
The bracelet features a pink adjustable stretch cord with a newly
designed metal charm featuring the breast cancer awareness ribbon and
engraved on the backside with "2008."
This is Payless' fifth annual Taking Steps to Fight Breast Cancer
program to benefit breast cancer research and community outreach. Over the
past four years, Payless and its shoppers have raised more than $2 million
for breast cancer awareness through the program. In just four years,
Payless has joined the ranks of Komen for the Cure's "Million Dollar
Council." Payless said it will again donate 100 percent of the net profits
from the bracelet sales to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
To buy the $2 Payless bracelet, consumers can visit stores or shop
http://www.payless.com beginning September 25. This is a limited-edition
item and available only while supplies last.
According to the American Cancer Society's 2008 facts and figures,
breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among American women of
all ages and is second only to lung cancer in cancer deaths. In fact, one
in eight American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her
lifetime. For more information on breast health or breast cancer, contact
