CHICAGO, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Subimo(R), a provider of
comprehensive, web-based health care decision tools and information, today
announced that it has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Oxford
Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: OHP), to provide Oxford members access to Subimo's
Healthcare Advisor(TM). Oxford's more than 1.5 million members now will be
able to review treatment options and compare performance data of hospitals
within Oxford's network.
"As we ask our members to become more engaged in making financial
decisions about their health care, we must be able to provide them the
information and tools to make educated, informed decisions," said Charles G.
Berg, president and chief operating officer at Oxford Health Plans, Inc.
"Working with Subimo and others is an important step in providing more
comprehensive information to our members."
Subimo's Healthcare Advisor is a decision support tool that allows
consumers to review their clinical options for more than 50 different
conditions and surgeries, including asthma, rheumatoid arthritis,
tonsillectomy and open-heart surgery. Based on specific surgeries, treatment
options and personal preferences, members can review the performance of
individual hospitals and compare data in categories such as numbers of
operations performed, complication rates and whether or not the hospitals meet
standards created by The Leapfrog Group, comprised of more than 110 public and
private organizations created to initiate improvements in the safety and
overall value of health care to American consumers.
Members then can obtain a list of hospitals that best meet their criteria
along with interactive explanations and interpretations of data and a list of
additional issues and questions to consider. In addition, the site provides a
list of questions that one should ask a physician when determining treatment,
as well as information to help individuals understand their particular
conditions. Members can access the Healthcare Advisor site through their
"MyOxford" page or the "oxfordhealth Center."
"Today's consumers want more control in managing their own care, and we
are confident that consumer-driven health care will be a significant factor in
improving health care quality," said Ann Mond Johnson, president of Subimo.
"Subimo is pleased to be an integral part of Oxford's commitment of providing
preeminent products and services to its members to help improve quality of
care."
