The Waking of a Giant Opportunity
NORRISTOWN, Pa., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Facial Concepts, Inc. (FCI), a
privately held corporation since 1989, developed a commercial market for a
patented, facial rehabilitation device that increases oral-motor muscle
strength. More than 340,000 units have sold under the product line name
Facial-Flex(R) during the past 60 months, generating $8.8 million gross
revenue for FCI. FCI has taken the device from prototype, through United
States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) registration, clinical testing,
manufacturing, packaging, marketing, sales and distribution. During that time
FCI used the esthetics market as a development laboratory in which the Facial-
Flex(R) device was functionally tested by a broad cross section of people
experiencing facial muscle laxity, but without oral-motor impairment. The
device was found to be safe and effective. Facial-Flex has since been
recognized by healthcare professionals and medical researchers as a promising
device for broader, multiple rehabilitation applications and, to that extent,
FCI is seeking a strategic investment partner to effectively launch the
product line into new and emerging medical markets.
FCI has established the Facial-Flex(R) product line as a medical device
for facial care and rehabilitation. Completed and ongoing clinical studies
show significant, positive results, and suggest multiple applications for
mechanically aided resistance exercise devices in a range of craneo-facial
rehabilitation, such as Temporomandibular Joint Disease (TMJ/TMD), speech
disorders, and other facial muscle weaknesses, including sleep apnea/snoring.
Over 50 million people in the United States suffer from facial muscle
impairments due to maladies such as TMJ, stroke, or facial trauma,
representing a potential revenue stream of approximately $48 Million to FCI.
Additionally, Facial-Flex is gaining recognition by healthcare specialists as
a device that shows promise in the treatment of sleep apnea/snoring. This
condition affects an estimated 20 million people in the United States
representing an additional revenue stream of approximately $42 Million. FCI's
success in the healthcare market is projected to be self-sustaining and
replenished by an aging population, worldwide. Furthermore, as a medical
therapeutic device, Facial-Flex has the potential to significantly reduce
healthcare costs by becoming the first choice in therapy as a non-invasive
treatment regimen.
FCI is now positioned as an emerging medical device company with a unique
focus on facial care. There is no competing device or method that can be
applied in a systematic, measurable way to improve oral motor abilities, as
well as quantify the outcomes of treatment. Investment financing is being
sought to expand product application studies and to promote clinical and
over-the-counter sales.
