Heinz Specialty Pet Food Formed to Focus on Pet Stores and Veterinary Clinics

PITTSBURGH, September 19, 2000 /PRNewswire/ -- Heinz North America, an
affiliate of the H. J. Heinz Company (NYSE: HNZ) today announced the formation
of the Heinz Specialty Pet Food organization to focus specific attention on
pet stores and the veterinarian community worldwide.
The specialty pet food business for Heinz will now be separated from the
retail grocery and mass merchandisers pet food business and will be organized
under one management team. The business will be headed by David Rosenthal,
General Manager of Heinz Specialty, who will be responsible for all aspects of
the specialty business. David Rosenthal will report to Brian Falck, President
and CEO of Heinz Canada. The Specialty Sales force will be headed by
Don Pellegrino, Vice President of Specialty Pet Food sales.
"The reorganization of the specialty pet food business was necessary for
us to create the focus we need to drive growth in the ever expanding specialty
pet food category," said Brian Falck, president and CEO of Heinz Canada. "The
specialty pet food business is unique in the Heinz portfolio and the new
structure allows us to place the resources behind this category to drive
growth and market share. Additionally, the formation of this organization is
testament to Heinz's reaffirmed focus and commitment to pet store retailers
and veterinarian clinics."
Heinz Specialty Pet Food is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and
is comprised of pet food brands that are marketed directly to pet specialty
stores and through veterinary clinics. Heinz currently sells its specialty
