Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call-
control products, today announced the general availability of a new release of
its software-based SnowShore IP Media Server(TM) with increased scalability
and video processing performance boosts and a new set of rich multimedia

Brooktrout application partners with unprecedented capacity expansion for
large scale audio conferencing sessions, high performance processing of large
bandwidth video streams for multimedia and messaging services and advanced
collaboration feature support for contact center applications.

"Due to the open development framework of the emerging IMS architecture,
today's SIP applications along with traditional voice-only services like
conferencing and call center applications, can be transformed into converged,
multimedia collaboration services incorporating disparate applications such as
IP video, audio conferencing, and real-time chat features," said Peter
Vescuso, vice president of market development. "The SnowShore IP Media Server
plays a critical role, providing enhanced media processing, conference mixing
and video streaming capabilities that mold separate applications into a
single, converged real-time application."

    High Capacity Audio Conferencing
The new Brooktrout SnowShore IP Media Server software release features
carrier-grade collaboration support optimized to scale, manage and deliver
high capacity audio conferencing applications. By leveraging this new
capability, carriers can rapidly expand small 3-way conferencing sessions to
large conferencing sessions with thousands of active and passive participants
via single and multiple clusters of SnowShore IP media servers.
"Brooktrout's new conferencing release addresses scalability requirements
for flexible capacity expansion from smaller 'on-the fly' multi-person
conferences to larger, town meeting style conferencing sessions," said Jeff
Liebl, vice president of marketing at Ubiquity Software.

    Multimedia Collaboration Features
Brooktrout partner Transera Communications(TM), a pioneer in collaborative
call management software, will leverage new multimedia collaboration features
within the new release to support its collaborative call management solutions.
Transera will utilize the platform's "coach whisper" feature, 3-way
conferencing and call leg muting functionality to provide call monitoring and
multi-party conferencing by call center agents during active calls, while
remaining invisible to the end customer. In addition, the platform's core
media server functions enable Transera to offer global contact center
functionality, including call queuing, dynamic call treatments, announcement,
routing and recording.
"As a leading provider of advanced call management and collaboration
solutions, Transera requires a flexible, open standards-based media server
that offers the robust functionality required to scale our services and allow
our customers to communicate across multiple enterprise sites and
geographies," said Prem Uppaluru, co-founder and CEO of Transera. "We selected
Brooktrout's new media server platform based on the company's field-proven
success in delivering advanced IP multimedia services to the service provider
market."

    High Performance Video Processing
Brooktrout's new software release features dramatic video processing
performance boosts enabling the processing of high bandwidth video streams up
to 200 Kbps, ensuring video messaging and conferencing partners can deliver
real-time, low latency, high resolution IP video services across fixed or
mobile networks to diverse endpoints devices. This level of performance gives
wireless and wireline carriers greater flexibility and broader application
reach enabling them to offer high quality low bandwidth "narrow band" and high
bandwidth "broadband" video applications tailored to the requirements of
subscriber endpoint devices -- cell phones, PDAs and desktops.

Software Flexibility & Carrier Grade Capacity
Brooktrout's new software release delivers higher capacity and offers
flexible deployment options. It features an expanded session capacity up to
500 sessions per server blade. Application partners or carriers can embed the
Brooktrout media server within single applications or deploy it across a broad
array of standard-based carrier-grade NEBS compliant systems including
commercial off the shelf servers (COTS), blade servers and AdvancedTCA
platforms. The release supports Red Hat 4.0 ES and is controlled via standard
network and programming interfaces SIP and VoiceXML. It is interoperable with
a broad range of third-party application servers and access infrastructures in
next-generation fixed, wireless and broadband network environments.
The SnowShore IP Media Server Release 1.4 is available today. A
demonstration version of the software will be available on CD at Brooktrout's
exhibit booth #321 at the Fall VON Conference.
