FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Protein Design Labs,
Inc. (PDL) (Nasdaq: PDLI) today announced Peter Calcott, Ph.D. will join the
company as Vice President, Quality and Compliance.
In this newly-created position, Dr. Calcott will join the company's senior
management team reporting directly to Chief Executive Officer Mark McDade, and
will oversee the biopharmaceutical company's quality and compliance operations
across all four of its sites in California, Minnesota, New Jersey and Paris.
Dr. Calcott joins PDL from Chiron Corporation where he served as Corporate
Vice President of Quality since 2001. Prior to that, he held senior level
quality positions with Immunex Corp., Bayer AG, SmithKline Beecham and
Monsanto Company. A native of the United Kingdom, he holds a Bachelor of
Science degree and doctorate from the University of East Anglia and from the
University of Sussex, respectively.

business development and most recently, quality and regulatory compliance,"
