A comprehensive suite of software tools provides developers with key
biometric functionality for enrollment, background check, fingerprint
template extract and match, and ID personalization
BEDFORD, Mass., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq:
AWRE), a leading innovator of biometrics software, broadband silicon
intellectual property, and DSL test and diagnostics technology, today
announced the demonstration of its comprehensive suite of biometrics
software tools in its booth (#400) at the 2006 Biometrics Technology Expo,
taking place in conjunction with the Biometrics Consortium Conference from
September 19th through 21st in Baltimore. Aware is introducing several new
products at the event, including PIVSuite(TM), a family of software
development kits for developers and integrators to design Personal Identity
Verification (PIV) enrollment and card personalization solutions. PIVSuite
provides key biometric functionality required for standards compliance,
including automated biometric facial and fingerprint image capture, image
and data compliance assurance, fingerprint template generation and
matching, fingerprint background checking, and ID card file formatting and
reading.
Also new is Aware's Biometric Workflow Platform (BWP), a server
application enabling an advanced enrollment workstation network. The BWP
enables reliable collection, transport, and management of enrollment data
and its submission to multiple destinations, such as for background
checking, card personalization, and storage. Together, Aware's PIVSuite and
BWP fulfill a broad range of requirements for PIV registration, identity
proofing, ID personalization, and access control in full compliance with
FIPS 201 standards.
"Some important features of the Aware software tools are that they are
available a la carte and are independent of other system components,"
commented David Benini, Aware's director of product marketing. "This
enables a highly modular system design and helps integrators avoid reliance
on monolithic, proprietary solutions."
About PIV and the New Government Employee IDs
Biometric specifications for the PIV government employee ID program
were published by NIST in Special Publication 800-76. These specifications
are part of a larger body of work headed by NIST to standardize
biometric-enabled ID cards for all federal government employees and
contractors, as specified in the new "FIPS 201: Personal Identity
Verification (PIV) for Federal Employees and Contractors." This new
standard is a result of Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-12
issued by President Bush in August 2004, which mandates standardization of
IDs and their use for the purpose of controlling access to government
facilities and information systems. More information on HSPD-12 can be
found online at
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/08/20040827-8.html.
The Aware tools are designed to assist government contractors with
standards-based design requirements for the data acquired by the enrollment
systems, stored on the ID cards, and read by the verification systems.
