Reliant Energy, David Carr Hold News Conference/Book Signing to Raise Awareness About Juvenile Diabetes Research, Promote Little Drop Book

HOUSTON, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Houston Texans quarterback
David Carr, his mother Sheryl, and representatives from Reliant Energy,
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Houston Gulf Coast Chapter and
H-E-B Grocery held a news conference today to raise awareness about
juvenile diabetes and promote the book Little Drop and the Healing Place,
which helps young children understand the meaning of the disease.
The book was written by David's mother, Sheryl, after Austin Carr,
David and wife Melody's oldest son, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in
January 2005. The disease, commonly referred to as juvenile diabetes,
carries devastating complications and strikes children suddenly, making
them insulin- dependent for life.
Shortly after Austin's diagnosis, David held a news conference in
February 2005 to announce that he wanted to do something more to help his
son as well as other children suffering from the disease.
"Many have come before me and many will follow, but today I will make a
difference and we will fight for a cure, for my child and for yours," Carr
said.
Reliant Energy answered the call for support. The company teamed up
with the Carr family to publish 10,000 copies of Little Drop and the
Healing Place. The book, selling for $10 each, will be available starting
today (Sept. 19) at 45 Houston-area H-E-B Stores, with proceeds benefiting
JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter.
