DENVER, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Investment Management Consultants
Association (IMCA(R)) today recognized Margaret M. Towle, Ph.D., with its
prestigious 2006 Stephen L. Kessler Writing Award.
Each year, IMCA honors selected members with the Kessler Award in
recognition of their excellent editorial contributions to the IMCA(R)
Monitor, the organization's bimonthly educational magazine. The award is
named for Stephen L. Kessler, CIMA(R), who served as the first volunteer
editor of the Monitor. IMCA(R) Board of Directors President Jeffrey B.
Thomas, JD, CPA, CIMA(R), announced this year's awards at the IMCA(R) 2006
Fall Professional Development Conference, held in Dallas, Sept. 18-20.
Ms. Towle was selected for the 2006 Stephen L. Kessler Writing Award
for her article entitled, "'Culture of Compliance' from an Organizational
Theory Perspective," which appeared in the November/December 2005 issue of
the Monitor. In it, she tackled a topic constantly under debate in the
world of compliance: the meaning of "culture of compliance." She discussed
tools to assess an organization's compliance culture, how organizations
evolve in response to external and internal factors, and practical measures
to enhance an organization's culture of compliance.
Ms. Towle is a 25-year veteran of Wall Street. She is former managing
partner of Alternative Institutional Partners in New York City and former
chief investment officer of Northern Trust Global Advisors.
Three additional authors received Stephen L. Kessler Honorable
Distinction awards at the Dallas conference. They are:
John P. Collins, CIMA(R), ChFC, for his article, "Get Off the
Performance Treadmill," which appeared in the January/February 2006 issue
of the Monitor. Mr. Collins is a regional director for ADVISORport, a PFPC
Worldwide Company, in King of Prussia, PA.
Jim Flinchum, CIMA(R), CFP(R), and Howard M. Weiss, for "Winning
Mandates from Family Offices," from the September/October 2005 issue of the
Monitor. Mr. Flinchum is managing principal of Bay Capital Advisors, a
multifamily office based in Virginia Beach, VA. Mr. Weiss is a senior vice
president and wealth management consultant at Bank of America in Baltimore,
MD, where he specializes in the family office and private foundation
markets.
