WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More Americans will
have access to high-quality, evidence-based care for behavioral health
conditions under bipartisan legislation passed by the U.S. Senate. The
"Mental Health Parity Act of 2007" would require health plans that offer
mental health benefits to provide parity with respect to all financial
requirements and all treatment limitations.

"AHIP applauds the Senate for coming together in a bipartisan fashion
and creating an effective process involving all stakeholders to advance
this important legislation," said Karen Ignagni, President and CEO of
America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). "This bill provides coverage for
persons with mental illness without undermining innovations in behavioral
health services or imposing costs on employers that would make it difficult
for them to continue to offer health care benefits."
AHIP commends the Senate for focusing on meeting the needs of patients
who have behavioral health and substance abuse problems and allowing health
plans to continue to use innovative medical management tools that improve
the quality and accessibility of behavioral health benefits.
