Abgenix Names John Meyer Vice President, Human Resources

    FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Abgenix, Inc. (Nasdaq: ABGX)
announced today the appointment of John Meyer to vice president, Human
Resources.  Mr. Meyer was recently vice president of Human Resources at Somnus
Medical Technologies.

    Mr. Meyer has more than 20 years experience as a human resources
professional.  In addition to Somnus, he has held senior positions at
Vivus, Inc., Target Therapeutics, Chipcom Corporation, PHH Fleet America,
NBI, Inc. and Digital Equipment Corporation.  Mr. Meyer received his Bachelor
of Science degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
