Carrier IP Termination Service to Be Available With SIP Interface Capability
Wholesale Customers Can Leverage MCI's IP-Centric Network to Compete in
Growing VoIP Market
BOSTON, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- VON Show -- MCI, Inc.
(Nasdaq: MCIP) today announced a Carrier IP Termination solution using a
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) interface as the newest addition to its
comprehensive suite of wholesale VoIP offerings.
The Carrier IP Termination offering, using the SIP interface, helps enable
wholesale customers to recognize savings opportunities when terminating IP-
originated calls to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Customers
can see additional expense reductions from eliminating the need to convert IP
traffic to TDM prior to handing traffic off to MCI's global IP network.
The SIP-based product, available on a limited basis in 2005 and more
broadly available in the United States first quarter of 2006, joins MCI's
previously announced TDM-based Carrier IP Termination product. Together, these
interface products provide wholesale customers with the ability to hand-off
traffic using the transport method that best suits their needs.
"MCI is introducing a variety of new products and services to meet the
growing customer demand of wholesale VoIP services," said John Krummel, senior
vice president of MCI Wholesale Services. "MCI's Carrier IP Termination
enables our customers to realize cost savings while benefiting from all of the
quality and global reach MCI's IP network has to offer."
MCI Wholesale Services also offers SIP Gateway Services, giving wholesale
customers more choice and flexibility in meeting their end-user requirements.
MCI's SIP Gateway Services are available in three service configurations:
Inbound Complete, Two-Way Local and Two-Way Complete.
-- Inbound Complete - Gives wholesale customers competitive purchase
options and includes inbound local and long distance calls.
-- Two-Way Local -- Enables both inbound and outbound local calling, which
allows wholesale customers to expand their Assigned Number Information
(ANI) inventory quickly.
-- Two-Way Complete -- Allows wholesale customers to take advantage of
MCI's robust local and global network at competitive rates when
providing local and long distance calling plans to their customers.
With all configurations of the SIP Gateway Services, MCI provides the
media gateway to the PSTN, local number portability, E-911 (for outbound
configurations), directory listings and Web-based order submission.
As a result of strong customer demand, MCI announced in August the
accelerated availability of its Wholesale IP Communications products. The
company has also added a Strategic IP Sales team to its wholesale VoIP
initiative to work with MCI's existing wholesale sales force.
MCI will be exhibiting at the VON show in Boston from September 20 through
22. Booth #1315.
