Clean For Cure(R) Campaign Exceeds $600,000 With No Limit to Fight Breast Cancer

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- With Breast Cancer Awareness
Month still to come in October, Oreck Corporation already raised more than
$600,000 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through sale of
the specially- created Pink Oreck XL(R) Ultra Hypo-Allergenic Plus Vacuum
Cleaner. The company has no maximum limit on its contribution, vowing to
continue to raise money for the Komen Foundation as one of their charitable
endeavors.
"When you try the new Pink Oreck XL Ultra Vacuum Cleaner in your home
for 30 days, Oreck will donate $50 to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation," said President and CEO Tom Oreck.
"We want to double the money raised so far," he said. "It is our hope
the public will continue to join with us to help this important cause."
The Clean for the Cure(R) campaign for the Komen Foundation was created
by Oreck Corporation just months after the company was hard hit by
Hurricane Katrina at both its New Orleans headquarters and Gulf Coast Miss.
plant. Named Heroes of Katrina in 2005 by CNN, the Oreck family helped
employees rebuild their lives and was the first to reopen a headquarters in
New Orleans and plant in Mississippi after the hurricane.
"Oreck is a company that cares about people," said Oreck. "On the Gulf
Coast or across the country, our goal is to help people have a cleaner,
healthier home and thus a better quality of life," he said.
"As a multi-generation, family-run company, Oreck believes in giving
back to the people who buy our products and supporting the causes in which
they believe," said Oreck.
"Since mostly women buy and use our vacuum cleaners, supporting the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is the right thing to do," company
founder David Oreck said.
Oreck's Clean for the Cure(R) campaign, which began in March, 2005,
lasts through February 28, 2007, so consumers also can think pink with the
Pink Oreck Vacuum for holiday home cleaning and gift giving as well as
everyday cleaning needs.
"A key to our success at the Komen Foundation is that we collaborate
with a variety of organizations to provide creative ways for people to make
a difference in the fight against breast cancer," said Cindy Schneible,
vice president of cause-related marketing and sponsorship at the Komen
Foundation. "We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with Oreck to
increase breast cancer awareness and allow consumers nationwide to make a
valuable contribution to breast cancer research and community outreach
programs."
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation supports breast cancer
research, education, screening and treatment projects around the world.
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the US
and women have a one in eight chance of being diagnosed with the disease in
their lifetime.
According to David Oreck, he originally developed the Oreck Vacuum with
women in mind. "We stay true to that principle today," he said. "Most women
can push the Oreck Upright Vacuum with one finger," he said. Oreck designed
the machine to be a powerful cleaner but weigh just eight pounds. "I wanted
to make it as user friendly as possible without sacrificing efficient and
effective cleaning power," Oreck said.
"The new Pink Oreck XL Vacuum reduces user stress with an
ergonomically- designed handle," Oreck said. "It helps eliminate stress and
strain on hands, wrists and elbows," he said. The Oreck handle received the
Arthritis Foundation(R) Ease-Of-Use Commendation.
The Clean For The Cure(R) Pink Oreck Vacuum features an eight-year
warranty and eight annual, free tune-ups. It can be purchased at $549 at
any of 475 Oreck Clean Home(TM) Centers across the country, at
http://www.cleanforthecure.com or by calling 1-800-237-4181.
As a cleaning bonus, the Oreck Clean For The Cure(R) portable,
shoulder- strap canister vacuum, complete with attachments, is also
included. Lightweight and easy to use, it is black with the pink ribbon
symbol. For more information go to http://www.komen.org and
