Stillwater Mining Names John R. Stark as Vice President, Human Resources

    DENVER, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- STILLWATER MINING COMPANY (Amex: SWC)
announced the appointment of John R. Stark, 47, as Vice President, Human
Resources.  Stark is responsible for human resources activities companywide,
including setting corporate policies, compensation and benefits
administration.  He will office in Columbus, Montana.
    Stark joins Stillwater Mining from Molycorp, Inc. of Taos, New Mexico,
where he was responsible for worldwide sales and administrative functions,
including human resources and governmental relations, since 1996.  With 18
years of diversified experience, Stark has a varied background in corporate
administration and human resources.  From 1992 to 1996, he was with Western
Mobile, Inc., Denver, an international construction material supplier, as
Counsel, Environmental Affairs/Redland North America, and as Vice President,
Administration.  Stark was with the former AMAX Inc. for 13 years until 1992.
He served as Managing Director for its subsidiary Climax Specialty Metals in
London, responsible for manufacturing operations and sales for three years.
From 1986 to 1989, Stark was Vice President, Human Resources, for Climax
Metals Inc., where he helped to implement a cultural and management
restructuring.  And, from 1979 to 1986, he served in various positions of
increasing responsibility handling labor union negotiations and labor
relations.

Stark earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver School of
Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Montana.
