WHO: Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh
networking, announced today that its Access/One Network Indoor
Wireless System (IWS) has been chosen to provide the wireless
mesh infrastructure at the Fall 2005 VON Conference & Expo.
Also at the Fall 2005 VON Conference & Expo, Matt Holdrege of
Strix Systems' Customer Operations is speaking on a pair of
panels discussing wireless VoIP (wVoIP).
WHAT: After the Boston Conference and Exhibition Center determined
that its existing wireless infrastructure could not handle the
level of wVoIP traffic typical at VON conferences while also
maintaining high-performance Wi-Fi data service, it selected
Strix Systems' IWS to create a temporary wireless mesh network
at the Fall 2005 VON event.
"After experiencing difficulties with the convention center's
existing wireless equipment, we decided to bypass it altogether
and go with Strix's solution based on VON's experiences with
Strix in the past," said John Jones, Pulver.com Conference
Network Manager. "I was amazed that within hours of deciding to
replace the network with Strix, we were up and running at
performance levels we could never have achieved with other
wireless mesh solutions."
This is the second consecutive year Strix's equipment will be
deployed at the Fall VON event. The IWS network will support
both Wi-Fi data use and seamless roaming for heavy Wi-Fi phone
traffic.
"VON has used Strix's architecture for our conferences in the
past, and when it came time to deploy a temporary
high-performance mesh network that can provide seamless roaming
for a large amount of Wi-Fi phones while ensuring high bandwidth
for Wi-Fi data users, Strix was our obvious choice," said Jeff
Pulver, chairman and founder of Pulver.com. "Strix had their
network up and running within hours, once again proving that
their ease-of-use is as impressive as their throughput and
coverage."
While Strix's IWS handles all wVoIP traffic at the conference,
Matt Holdrege of Strix Systems' Customer Operations is speaking
to conference attendees as a member of two panels about wVoIP
technologies.
Today, Holdrege appeared on the "VoIP Mesh Networking" panel,
where he and speakers from other wireless mesh vendors explored
which mesh architecture is best suited for metro-scale VoIP
deployments. On Thursday, Holdrege will participate in the
Birds of a Feather session entitled "Voice and Wireless," which
will explore voice over mesh and WLANs in the enterprise
setting.
