MCA Records and UBL Join Forces for Ultimate dada Promotion

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- MCA Records band dada,
whose self-titled debut album for the label shipped this past week, is getting
a super Internet boost with the launch of a major promotion on UBL, the
Ultimate Band List, one of the web's most highly visible music-related sites.
From now through October 15, UBL will be the official Internet sponsor of
dada's current U.S. tour, offering a variety of showcase options on the UBL
site, as well as making its presence felt at dada concerts. UBL's web address
is http://www.ubl.com.
With more than 2 million hits each month, UBL is a powerful presence on
the web. In its cross-promotion with dada, UBL will offer a page within its
main site promoting the new dada album and tour (complete with full
itinerary). In addition, 45-second snippets of several songs from the album,
including "California Gold," "Playboy in Outerspace," and "Goodbye," are just
a few mouseclicks away. Browsers may purchase the album at the site, read the
bio as well as other information on the band, and sign up via e-mail for more
on dada. The first 1000 inquiring fans will then be eligible to receive a
dada cassette sampler from MCA Records. Moreover, at all dada shows, a UBL
banner will be prominently displayed, informing fans of the site's many
features.
dada has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim and sold hundreds of
thousands of records over the course of their four-album career. Lead
guitarist/vocalist Michael Gurley and bassist/vocalist Joie Calio formed DADA
in 1990. Working initially as an acoustic duo, the two eventually enlisted
the aid of drummer Phil Leavitt. Their 1992 album debut, Puzzle, sold over
300,000 copies, and won much critical praise, with Guitar World asserting,
"DADA can rock, kids -- hard, long, and strong." A second album, "American
Highway Flower," followed in 1994, with their third, "El Subliminoso,"
released in 1996. The band's newest, their first for MCA Records, was
produced by Danny Kortchmar.
