BOSTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Goodwin Procter LLP today announced that
Wayne A. Budd will rejoin the firm's Boston office in the Litigation
Department, effective October 1. Budd had previously been a partner at the
firm from 1993 to 1996.

Budd joins the firm from John Hancock Financial Services Inc., where he
was senior executive vice president and general counsel since 2000. He was
responsible for directing all of the company's legal activities and for
overseeing Community Relations for the organization. Before joining Hancock,
Budd was Group President-New England at Bell Atlantic Corporation (now Verizon
Communications), where he was responsible for regulatory and legislative
functions for the New England Region.
Before entering the private sector, Budd had been Associate Attorney
General of the United States, appointed to the position by President George
H.W. Bush in 1992. He oversaw the Civil Rights, Environmental, Tax, Civil and
Antitrust divisions at the Department of Justice, as well as the Bureau of
Prisons.
From 1989 to 1992, he was the United States Attorney for the District of
Massachusetts, serving as the state's chief federal prosecutor and
representing the federal government in matters involving civil litigation.
During this time, he was recognized for his efforts in combating drugs, street
crime and gang violence. Budd also served on the U.S. Sentencing Commission,
appointed in 1994 by President Bill Clinton.
He is a director of McKesson Corporation, Premcor Inc., American
Automobile Association of Southern New England and the John F. Kennedy Library
Foundation. He is also vice chairman of the Greater Boston Chamber of
Commerce and a member of the Senior Advisory Committee for the Institute of
Politics, Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
He is a cum laude graduate of Boston College and received his J.D. from
Wayne State University School of Law.
