NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Kentucky Senator Jim Bunning
recently released a television advertisement that the Paper, Allied-
Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union (PACE) believes
gives the false impression that the union has endorsed his Senate candidacy.
Leon Owens, a former local union president at USEC Gaseous Diffusion plant in
Paducah, KY is featured in the political advertisement. The ad also
prominently displays the PACE International Union logo.
"Mr. Owens' statements in this piece reflect his own personal political
views and in no way represent those of the local union or PACE International
Union," said Region Eight Vice President and Director Gerald Johnston. "We
feel the Bunning Campaign stepped over the line and deliberately used our
union to further his own political cause."
PACE International Union has officially endorsed the Democratic candidate,
Dr. Daniel Mongiardo, Bunning's opponent for U.S. Senate seat in Kentucky.
PACE is investigating pursuing litigation against Senator Bunning's
campaign for use of its logo in the television advertisement without PACE's
permission.
PACE International Union represents over 270,000 workers in the paper,
oil, chemical, atomic energy, auto parts, grain milling, cement, and
industrial minerals industries and over 5,500 members in the state of
Kentucky.
