Version 4.0 of SurfUP supports video transcoding, conferencing, streaming, and
recording and contains a toolbox for enhanced video processing functions
BOSTON, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- VON Expo -- SURF Communication
Solutions(R) ("Surf") today announced the general availability of version 4.0
of SurfUP(TM), its line of open Universal Port solutions that combine a wide
range of voice, video, fax, and modem conversion engines in various levels of
software and hardware integration, ranging from DSP chip-level solutions to
DSP-farm resource boards. The new version, which has already been deployed at
several customer sites, features a wide range of video capabilities, including
transcoding, conferencing, streaming, and recording. In addition, version 4.0
contains a video toolbox for enhanced video processing functions, such as
resizing, frame rate change, background/foreground controls, and logo
insertion.
The new version provides a completely integrated solution that runs all
media types (voice, video, fax & modem) simultaneously on the same DSP (Texas
Instruments' (TI)TMS320C64x(TM) DSP generation). The same DSP also supports
UDP/IP, RTP, and H.223 (for 3G-324M), making the solution scalable and
effective by eliminating Host-DSP bottlenecks. In addition, Surf provides an
open DSP framework that allows telecom infrastructure manufacturers to
integrate their own user-defined channel and incorporate ANSI-C algorithms in
the DSP.
Surf's approach is unique, since all other solutions separate voice and
video and run them on different DSPs/sub-systems, or divide the processing
between the host and the DSP. Running them together makes the solution more
effective (cost, quality and performance-wise) since it enables dynamic
(during run-time), modification of the channel to support voice now, and voice
and video later.
Surf's products are optimized for gateway applications and CTI/ messaging/
streaming/ recording/ conferencing applications. Voice and video streaming
capabilities as well as voice and video mixing capabilities (including
dominant speaker detection) are also supported. These solutions are provided
on variety of platforms: boards for PCI and PTMC/AMC DSP farms as well as
chip-level. In addition, Surf has cooperation agreements with cPCI and ATCA
manufacturers to provide an integrated solution of Surf's PTMC/AMC daughter
cards riding on cPCI and ATCA carriers.
"This new release firmly positions Surf at the leading edge of media
processing technology for telecom equipment manufacturers," states Amir Zmora,
VP Marketing and Product Management of Surf Communication Solutions. "The
video capabilities and processing toolbox now available in SurfUP will allow
our customers to expand their existing voice solutions to include video, and
thereby capitalize on the industry's fastest growing trend, without a major
investment in infrastructure."
"The high performance and flexibility of TI's C64x DSP makes it the ideal
choice for triple-play media processing applications," said Cyril Clocher, DSP
business development manager for TI in EMEA. "It provides a powerful,
programmable base for SurfUP's advanced video capabilities, enhanced features
and scalability. Surf has a strong expertise in hardware and software
integration for media processing technology and we are delighted that they
have chosen the C64x DSP to help them bring their innovative and leading-edge
products to market."
