Nationwide reaches out to policyholders with automated phone calls
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.,
the country's seventh-largest property and casualty insurance company, has
claims representatives and agents prepared to assist customers as Rita makes
landfall this week.
Nationwide is also placing automated phone calls to policyholders in the
storm's projected path with messages on safety and claims processes.
In addition, Nationwide is broadcasting its 1-800-421-3535 claims hotline
on local radio and TV stations. Policyholders with storm damage should call
the Nationwide claims hotline or contact their local agents.
As weather alerts and reports from around the country track the storm
patterns, Nationwide has people and resources in place to respond quickly to
customers' needs. Storm centers are planned for areas hardest hit to receive
and handle claims from customers. Policyholders may call the claims hotline or
contact their agents to find locations. Pallets of relief supplies are ready,
if needed, for distribution to temporary storm centers once those locations
are established.
"Claims specialists are positioned and ready to be deployed," said Ken
Enscoe, Nationwide's director of catastrophe claims operations. "We are
preparing so that immediately following the event we can have claims
specialists in place to support policyholders."
Nationwide will also reinforce call center operations with more associates
and will extend shifts as needed to address policyholder calls.
Policyholders can also take the following steps now to help expedite their
claim if they have a loss:
* Read and understand your insurance policy, especially disclosures.
* Make sure important documents, such as an insurance policy or mortgage
papers, are stored in a safe deposit or fire safe box.
* Inventory valuables and contents in the home with pictures or video.
Note the approximate value of each item and the date of purchase. You
can also send an inventory to a family member outside your region for
safekeeping.
