Raytheon Selected for Anti-Jam GPS Sensor for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter; Awarded $25.8 Million Contract

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN)
has been selected to develop the next-generation militarized GPS system with
anti-jam and stealth capabilities for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike
Fighter (JSF). The JSF Digital Anti-jam Receiver (DAR) will provide
unprecedented accuracy supporting the precision strike mission capability of
the multi-role, stealthy strike fighter aircraft.
Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems business was awarded an initial
$25.8 million subcontract for System Development and Demonstration (SDD) by
Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems, which is responsible for mission systems
integration of the GPS sensor on the F-35 JSF team. The potential value of the
work is $125 million to provide DAR systems through SDD and production.
In this effort, Raytheon will be developing a militarized GPS anti-jam
sensor with a Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) receiver,
digital anti-jam electronics and a multi-element low observable antenna.
"The DAR system is a leap-ahead aircraft technology, integrating the 24
channel GPS receiver and adaptive beam-steering anti-jam electronics into a
single line replaceable unit form/fit compatible with the existing GAS-1
antenna electronics. The system includes provisions to incorporate emerging
JPALS and GPS modernization requirements as well," said James Hvizd, DAR
technology manager for Raytheon's Precision Guidance Systems business area.
Precision Guidance Systems, an organization within Raytheon's Space and
Airborne Systems (SAS) business, designs and develops integrated navigation
systems for weapons, avionics, and handheld applications. PGS is the industry
leader in GPS anti-jam solutions, including analog and digital adaptive
antenna systems and ultra-tight coupled GPS/INS systems. PGS also manufactures
GPS Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM) receivers.
Raytheon Company's Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) designs, develops and
manufactures advanced systems for precision engagement; missile defense; and
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Headquartered in El Segundo,
Calif., SAS has 11,000 employees and additional facilities in Goleta, Calif.;
