Provia Announces Windows(R) 2000 Version of ViaWare WMS

Provia The First Vendor to Offer Tier 1 Level WMS Functionality for
                            Windows 2000 Platform

CHICAGO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Provia Software, a leading provider of
order-to-delivery supply chain execution software solutions, announced the
availability of the company's ViaWare WMS (warehouse management system)
product for the Windows 2000 platform. With the release, Provia is the first
vendor to offer true 'Tier 1' level functionality in a single WMS for the
Windows 2000 and Unix platforms. The company made the announcement during a
press conference at the Frontline Solutions trade show in Chicago today.
Available December 15, Provia's Windows 2000 WMS has exactly the same
robust functionality as the company's powerful Unix-based product because the
same source code is used for both versions. By offering the same WMS product
for both Unix and Windows 2000, Provia is delivering a standard, scaleable and
database independent solution capable of meeting the needs of the most
demanding WMS environments.
"For companies with advanced WMS requirements such as wave building, labor
planning, task management, advanced kitting, automatic replenishment,
compliance labeling, serial number/catch weight capture, cross docking,
cluster/batch picking, and cycle counting, Provia's ViaWare WMS for Windows
2000 is up to the task," said Ken Lewis, Provia president and CEO. "Because we
use the same source code for both platforms, the Windows 2000 version has
already essentially been tested in the field by our current Unix customers.
With Provia, there are none of the 'new' product concerns for prospects
looking for a full-featured Windows 2000 WMS. The only difference between this
version and our Unix version is the platform."
ARC Advisory Group Director of Supply Chain Solutions Steve Banker
believes Provia's ability to offer the same WMS product for the Windows 2000
and Unix platforms is a wise move and should help strengthen the company's
position among the top WMS vendors. "Offering a product that utilizes the same
source code for multiple platforms in many ways protects Provia's potential
and current customers," Banker said. "The same features and functions are
available to all. There is no confusion about what functionality is included
in which package or upgrade path. Further, it helps Provia maximize its R&D
dollars."
Provia's single-source strategy also includes database independence, so
companies can choose between an Oracle, SQL, or Informix database for the WMS.
This allows the company to completely focus R&D on a single WMS product.
"Having the same WMS product available on both the Windows 2000 and Unix
platforms provides our clients with the reassurance that all of our R&D is
going into their product," Lewis said. "Our development team can focus all of
its efforts on a single, full-featured WMS product, instead of having to
address multiple products like some other SCE vendors, who market a different
WMS product for each platform."
According to Jonathan Sroka in the AMR Research Alert, September 19, 2002,
"ViaWare WMS for Windows2000 is a smart development with a strong growth
outlook. Across all Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications, Unix and
Microsoft platforms represented 90% of the 2001 license revenues, with
Microsoft making up 40%. Developing a Microsoft system with parity to its Unix
product, will give Provia the ability to tap into a growing market that it was
being shut out of earlier."
