Allstate, UNT Launch InsureTexas.org to Help Texans Better Understand Homeowners Insurance

Company Also Supports New Texas Department of Insurance Program to Help
                     Consumers Obtain Homeowners Coverage

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allstate Insurance
Company and the University of North Texas (UNT) today launched a consumer
education web site ( http://www.insuretexas.org ) to help Texans learn about and
compare the new homeowners policy forms approved for use in Texas.
At the same time, Allstate volunteered to participate in the
helpinsure.com program, unveiled by the Texas Department of Insurance last
week, to help consumers find homeowners insurance coverage.
These combined efforts are part of Allstate's commitment to promote
insurance education and to help Texans find the coverage that is best suited
for their needs.
InsureTexas.org was developed by the UNT Financial Services Center through
a grant from The Allstate Foundation. The website provides a wealth of
consumer education about homeowners insurance, including:

-- a comparison of the new types of homeowners policy forms recently
       approved by the TDI;
-- practical tips on how consumers might reduce the cost of their
       insurance; and
-- advice on how to prevent water damage by practicing
       preventative maintenance.

To cater to the state's large Hispanic population, content on the site is
available in both English and Spanish.
"The Allstate Foundation funded this website as part of our company's
commitment to promote insurance education," say Justin Schmitt, Allstate
Corporate Relations Manager. "Consumer education is key to improving the
Texas insurance marketplace. A more competitive market in which consumers can
select from many different companies, products and coverages at competitive
rate levels is Allstate's hope for Texas. We believe InsureTexas.org gives
Texans an opportunity to become more savvy insurance consumers and in turn
helps them get the information they need to make informed choices about
homeowners insurance."
"Some Texans may be confused about the new homeowners policies being
offered by insurers in the state," says Brenda Wells, Associate Professor of
Insurance at UNT. "We hope to give consumers a better understanding of their
homeowners policy options."
Despite a difficult insurance climate, Allstate is continuing to offer new
homeowners insurance policies to qualifying customers in Texas. The company is
currently writing about 1,200 new homeowners policies per week. Allstate
insures more than 600,000 Texas homeowners.
